I have two of these: one in the kitchen, the other on the bedside table. It's been about a year and both continue to work great. The one in the kitchen is only used occasionally. From time to time I have to pick up and reinstall the iPad to charge it. The one on my bedside table is used daily and is a real soldier. It wasn't possible to plug in the charger just once, which was because I accidentally pulled the plug from the socket on the floor. On my iPad I have a soft case that is compatible with the standard iPad smart front cover. The case doesn't interfere with charging at all, although I have to remove the front cover, which is fine as I only use the front cover when I'm out of the house. The base is strong but very light and has very strong magnets to align with the smart port connector. This is great for getting a good connection, but I have to use both hands to get the iPad off the dock or the whole base will want to come with me. It also makes silent placement difficult. And because it's a very streamlined, open-cornered design that makes little to no contact with the iPad itself, it's almost impossible for me to line it up in the dark when I've finished my late-night reading. My Qi charger can be disassembled in the dark.
