Review on Straight Ignition Lincoln Mercury Compatible by Bill Lacy

Revainrating 2 out of 5

2 out of service within 500 miles (so far)

Update: I installed them in a few weeks. 1 came out immediately. The second began to fail. Publishing code isn't bad enough, but it means this product now has a 25% bounce rate and is constantly being revised. It's not that replacing any of these is difficult, but the point of buying a new part is that you don't have to replace it for a while unless an accident happens. Because of this I lowered my rating from 3 to 2 stars. Hard to beat the price if you only want a few of these and are okay with the constant challenges. I discuss buying the original kit and spit money on it to avoid further problems. Original: I've ridden it about 250 miles so far. One failed at about 40-50 km, hence three stars. First I would give 5 stars based on price, fit and that solved my problem. I had a coil that failed/failed but I never gave a code so I didn't know which cylinder had the failed coil. I bought this complete set at a great price and swapped out all 8 in no time. On my 2007 Mercury Mountaineer with a 4.6L 3V engine, I needed a screwdriver, a 6" extension and a 7mm socket to finish the job. Replacing all 8 didn't take long, maybe half an hour or so. I tested it and the misfire problem was persistent. After about 40-50 miles the problem returned indicating that one of the new coils had failed. After about 100 miles there was a code that cylinder 6 had a misfire problem. Possibly based on other reviews I kept my original kit that I replaced and replaced it with one of my old coils to replace the new/failed coil on cylinder 6. After a quick swap of 5 minutes it works again. until the other fails. For the price they are great. As far as the number of bugs the fixes cause, they're okay. I would expect there to be at least 1 fault when purchasing this set based on my experience and many other reviews.
