Review on Winegard HD-6010 High-Definition FM Radio Antenna by Marc Cahoon

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Update: Do not buy, will not last:

UPDATE: avoid this antenna, besides mediocre performance, it worked at the first gust of wind. The locking mechanism is a cheap flimsy thing. See photo. This antenna went up slightly after I replaced the MISSING matching transformer from the Revain Warehouse deal (come on Arizona, at least inventory the parts before you sell them on!). This antenna is an omnidirectional dipole and will mostly receive all transmitters in all directions. I have strong stations in the east that cover most other weaker stations with this antenna. Although it has no gain on its own, in the absence of nearby interference (splash), it reliably provides a clear signal over a distance of about 40 miles. The antenna is simple and does not require a rotator like directional antennas, but again unlike directional antennas. With the ability to "point" at the right transmitter, reject other interfering transmitters, as well as provide amplification (increase in signal strength), this antenna picks up signals 360 degrees (quite a bit), which can be good or bad depending on your location. I think the best use for this antenna is when there are no strong transmitters nearby and decent reception is needed at 30-40 miles. Mounting the antenna just requires folding the elements and attaching a self-tapping screw, it's simple and straightforward. negotiate and reconcile. Don't skimp on the coax cable, use a quality RG-6 to get the best performance from your antenna. I think a lot of the bad reviews about antennas come from using old existing coax or cheap "big box" cable. Spend your extra money on a good RG-6 and you're done. If you don't have strong transmitters nearby, you can benefit from a mast mounted preamp and also mount the antenna as high as possible. If there are strong stations nearby I would leave out the amp and just place it above the roofline for better reception. Of course, a lot depends on the FM receiver itself, as the newer tuners simply don't have the sensitivity and selectivity that the old sets did from the 70's when FM was the main media source.
