Nintendo component cables work quite well. The cables are quite thick and you can see a difference in visual quality if you know what to look for. Some people who can't tell LCD from plasma may not be able to tell 480i from 480p and for those people I suggest sticking with what you have. For everyone else, this improves graphics quality on an HDTV that accepts 480p. I had a bit of trouble initially as all the colors were off, but I found that the cable wasn't fully plugged into the back of the Wii. Everything is fine now, but the old cable seems to fit a bit better, but that's not a problem. vent. The main reason I bought these cables was that when I went from 32" standard definition CRT to 50" HD plasma, the 480i quality became obvious (this also applies to 480i TV programs). This cable will help restore the lost quality, and then some others. When playing New Super Mario Bros. on the Wii with these components, I still notice lines around the playable characters, which disappointed me, but what can I expect from a non-HD system? Even if Nintendo executives say that we (consumers) don't want HD (given the volume of Wii sales, mainly by casual gamers), I say that we (hard-core gamers) definitely prefer it and wish Nintendo to see at least one version 720p (preferably 1080p) Wii in the next year or two. But we are talking about Wii component cables. It works. There's a difference between knowing what to look for and having your Wii switched to 480p and set to widescreen in the settings menu. Also, the audio and video cables are closely spaced (as others have pointed out) so you can't connect the video cables to the TV and the audio cables to the receiver. I connected component cables to my TV and an optical cable from the TV to my receiver to get sound. PLEASE NOTE: Not all Wii games support 480p. Not all Wii games support widescreen. Not all TVs support 480p (even if they have component inputs). If you can't tell 480i from 480p, then either your Wii isn't set up properly, or your game doesn't support 480p, or your TV doesn't support or isn't set up properly, or you just can't. t tell the difference. In this case, it doesn't matter what cables you have.
