In less than a year, the U-bolt threads broke simply by repeated tightening and loosening. The nut almost stuck onto the threads before tightening to the base plate, but I was surprised there was no corrosion. Upon inspection, the threads were deformed and deformed and broken under the nut in the part that is not stressed during tightening or exposed when tightening the nut. twisted down. The nut was of standard quality and had no damage. And honestly I was trying to make sure it wasn't accidental rubbing of a thread or some sort of mishandling she did there, maybe bent. I found that the threads just stuck together because they are soft, which I'll address below. As a temporary fix I cut off the damaged portion of the threads underneath the nut and was able to tighten the nut and restore its function for the time being. , but I have already ordered another brand as a replacement. Disappointing because I bought "Made in USA" hoping it was decent quality. It was the bolt shearing that made me give a negative review. I just cut it with a handsaw and if you've ever worked with metal you can feel the quality of the metal by the look and feel of the cut, how hard it is, what the shavings look like etc. I've used different metals for projects , ranging from very poor metal powder to high quality tool steel. I know to a certain extent what to expect. This U-bolt was a very soft and cheap metal. I've done a lot of projects where I've had to cut off extra threaded bolts and most of the stepped fittings are fairly strong, hardened and not easily scratched or cut, but not this one. It's not a classified piece of equipment but not even good enough for a simple task like this, I mean if used properly it won't be weighed down by the trailer. One possibility is that they may need to be heat treated after being bent 90 degrees. Angles in degrees to fit the hitch and I got one that didn't go through the heat treating process. Or they left it out because it's cheaper, probably the latter.
