Review on AcuRite 01184M Gray Digital Meat Thermometer with Timed Cooking Indicator by Greg Quinit

Temperature sensor malfunction. The saga continues.

I basically like the device. I probably use it once a week. The temperature sensor failed after 16 months of use. The reason I bought this unit was because the previous unit also had a sensor failure after years of use. Now I'm looking for a replacement sensor. Planned obsolescence? Update: Finally received an email for the Support Center. Asked them if I could buy a spare (also told them it was 16 months old). Their response was that if it is less than 12 months old they can send a replacement ie. You didn't read the email very well. They sent back a reply asking for a replacement. I'm still waiting. Moral of the story: if you have an old device, keep it. My old clumsy block lasted longer than I can remember. His replacement probably lasted 3 years. This unit lasted 1.5 years. It was always one probe that failed, and it did so with strain relief, which has gotten noticeably cheaper over the years. Replacement sensors will be available for the next device I buy and I will purchase some replacement parts with the device. It is a pity that the quality of these devices is constantly declining.
