Review on PANASONIC 7 14MM MIRRORLESS THIRDS H F007014 by Vijay Patel

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Expensive, but.! in Lenses for Mirrorless Cameras

The Panasonic 7-14mm lens was a problem for me. It cost about double what I've ever paid for a lens, even when I was still making a living from photography. After deciding to take the plunge and buy it (based on generally good reviews and many stunning full res photo examples) I was disappointed with slightly poor edge rendering on the wider FLs and soft edge corners on all FLs. , which I found on my first trial of this lens. Revain was great at the trades (as usual) and the next example was slightly better (but still disappointing for this "hardnut" and celebrated "pixel peeper"). On the third try I got a slight increase in performance (at f9 almost everything was fine over the entire zoom range, or could be corrected with a little work in the image editor). Since I like to use all kinds of wide angles and this FL range was important to me, I decided to take a third sample and accept its shortcomings. After all, that's almost half the price of the supposedly slightly inferior Olympus 7-14mm, and less than half the price of the supposedly excellent Nikkor 14-24mm full-frame 35mm (and it's a lot smaller and lighter than both). I'm glad I made that decision and got amazingly sharp 16.5" x 22" (image area) prints from photos taken with this lens. While this may require additional work on original images captured at the short end of the FL range, the results were worth it! This lens isn't perfect, but I really enjoy using it and I can get results that I'm happy with. More lens tests (with examples) here: http://www.david-ruether-photography.com/MFT-Lenses.htm--DR
