Review on CROWNFUL 10.6 Quart Digital Air Fryer With Rotisserie And Dehydrator - Get The Perfect Oil-Free Cook Every Time by Timothy Jimenez

Do you really need this?

Having cooked my way thru 84 years, trying new appliances as they pop up (microwave, blender, hibachi, toaster oven, food processor, fry daddy, Instant Pot, Crockpot, bread maker, etc., etc. ), I turned to an air fryer in the hopes it would enable me to cut down on fat. Unfortunately, it doesn't do that and adds a whole other list of aggravations.1. Except for french fries, you need to add some oil to everything else to either hold down breading or ensure browning. And beware of light things that will get blown around, like dehydrating herbs.2. Even with shelves instead of a basket, the space is very limited. Even with the light on, you cannot see what is on the top shelf because it is too high.3. The rotisserie is practically unusable in such a small space, is difficult to handle getting in and out and why on earth would anyone want to go to all the trouble to rotisserie a whole chicken when you can easily get one cooked and warmed at the grocery deli? Our local grocery store doesn't even sell whole chickens. And using the rotisserie basket for fries or wings or anything else is a process you really don't want to face at the end of a long day. (It is hot!)4. Yes, it's easy to wipe off the racks and tray, but have you tried cleaning up the grease and crumbs that have been blown around inside? Even cutting a heat proof mat to slip over the open door, there is still crumbs in the door hinge. Switching shelves requires a place to set one down, or three hands!5. Things get exceedingly crisp; nothing like fried foods. A "grilled cheese sandwich" is like eating a handful of greasy croutons.Naturally there is a learning curve with such things: determine if you appliance's temperature is hotter or cooler, watching to see if too much browning is taking place, using a temperature probe for meats, timing multiple dishes. Perhaps you have the time and patience for this cooking adventure; I don't.So, this is going down to the local resale shop and I am going back to my gas oven to cook my "fried" chicken. This machine works as advertised: it's just not for me.Review update: after this review was posted, the seller contacted me offering a full refund. I refused since my problem with this is one of "teaching an old dog new tricks". I am 84 years old and pretty much set in my cooking ways. This air fryer with shelves is much easier to use than the basket kind (I have tried both a smaller and larger basket air fryer in the past year). If you are looking for a shelved air fryer you won't find a better one, or one with better customer support.
