The speed control is not intuitive (the top of the s/b is up, the bottom is off). In fact, Off is somewhere in the middle, with a low level at the bottom and a high level at the top. I'm not sure if this information should have been passed in the "instructions" as there was only one switch in my box. Eventually I noticed the word "off" was embossed on the radiator near the center and figured it out. The switch operates silently, with no hum, but in the off and center positions you have to fiddle a bit to turn it on.
