Drive chains rubbing on gears? This switch allows you to control the fan speed without stressing the circuitry. That's easy; with 3 settings and is configured as a diva dimmer. I noticed that the low speed is a bit slower than the low fan speed. It's good for sleeping as it moves the air easily without "whistling". Overall this is a great switch, easy to install and use.

Ended up as expected, initially the electrician my contractor sent said it didn't work with my new fan and they had to use the ugly switch that came with the fan (which was basically a remote mount on the wall). When I was on site I found that the problem is that the remote control receiver connected to the fan needs to be removed to work with this switch and then no more problems.

The speed control is not intuitive (the top of the s/b is up, the bottom is off). In fact, Off is somewhere in the middle, with a low level at the bottom and a high level at the top. I'm not sure if this information should have been passed in the "instructions" as there was only one switch in my box. Installation was relatively easy but this part is bulkier than the switch it replaced and it takes time to rearrange the wiring in the two piece box to make it all fit. Also, I was able to lower the fan speed below the lowest setting on the fan switch itself. I left the fan switch on the fan case at medium speed and used the wall switch to set the lower high, medium, and low settings. This allowed me to set the fan speed to very low while I was sleeping.

Switch works very well. The toggle switch turns the fan on and off. The sideshift then has an upper, middle and lower position for high, middle and low speeds. Purchased for use with Fanimation OF110OB Exceptional ceiling fan with cage. The fan came with a 3 speed wall controller wired for only one position, but I needed a controller that would work for a 3 way application as this fan is controlled from two locations.
