This sharpens the pencil very quickly. I tried it with different brands of regular graphite pencils and they all came out razor sharp. I've tried it with several brands of cheap colored pencils (Crayola and RoseArt) and it sharpened them like a hot knife through butter. I'm a little afraid to try it on my Prismacolors. I'm sure it will do the job just fine, but it sharpens so quickly I'm afraid I'll lose a lot of length very quickly, and they're expensive. a splinter, but this sharpener makes wood nice and smooth. I'm not sure if the auto shut off works. It might actually make my pencils sharper
