Ford should put this on every F-150. The hinge is painted black, so you'll need to find a can of spray paint if you want the color to match. The installation instructions aren't very good, so I'll describe the process for a 19-foot F-150.1. Remove the two silver screws in the tailgate pillar holding the right tail light in place. Slide the taillight towards the rear of the car, there are two plastic braces holding the front of the light in place and another in the back near the stud mounts. You may need some strength to get it working. Just be sure to pull out the light parallel to the car, otherwise the struts will break. 2. Disconnect the tail light harness and put the light in a safe place.3. Use a small table, trestle or similar to support the right side of the tailgate when it is in the down position. Whatever you use, put a blanket or pillow on top to protect the tailgate paint.4. Disconnect the cable on the right side from the bedpost. There is a clip that makes it easy to do this. The cable on the left keeps the gate from dropping lower than it should, but don't put any extra pressure on them at this point.5. Put the table or goats in place. Move the tailgate about 1/2 down position. On the right hinge you will see a slot that allows you to move the tailgate away from the hinge attached to the bed. This gives you the space you need to unscrew the existing hinge. Two things: you can remove the entire tailgate by sliding it off the left hinge, but only if you don't have an electronic lock. Otherwise a wiring harness will run through the center of the tailgate preventing complete disassembly. Place the right side of the removed gate on the support, being careful not to loosen the left hinge. Be careful not to put pressure on the tailgate as it sits on a support or you could dent the metal.6. Use the recommended Torx bit to remove the two Torx screws. They have Loctite on them so it's going to take some effort. It is recommended to use a 1/2 inch ratchet or broken bar. Remove the existing hinge and replace it with a new one. Attach the included support to the ball end of the new hinge and to the frame behind the taillight bracket. 7. Further installation takes place in reverse order. from above. There is a little play in the hinge mount, so your cable may be slack on the right side when it's all back together. If this is the case, the hinge can be loosened and corrected down. Much luck!
