Review on πŸšͺ Enhanced Security RuffWeather Pet Door Super Large: A Reliable Solution for Large Pets by Jeremy Ward

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Big, strong, but worn.

I had several of these models. Reason? Dogs wear them out about every four years. Door seals wear out and air gets in. The magnets on the underside of the door detach and the doors open, letting in frigid air in winter and scalding air in summer. Rivets fall into the metal underskin of the wings. The flaps themselves are clear PVC, so it's -30 degrees in eastern Montana. the inner sheet freezes but remains flexible, and the outer sheet freezes and breaks off once a dog breaks down the door. My solution to this problem is to design an exterior shield out of a black rubber truck fender. In winter I remove the clear PVC cap and put a black rubber cap on. Dogs don't like it because they can't see through it, but eventually they use it and it doesn't freeze or crack like PVC. Clear PVC flaps will wear out over time so they can't see through anyway, and the outer flap and frame will yellow with age and UV exposure. So why do I keep buying them? Because they're big enough for even the largest of dogs (and I can actually crawl through them if I have to) and they work very well for the first year or so. After four years it's time to replace it. Because there is nothing better. I'm about to buy another one.
