Review on Vortex Optics Razor Binoculars 18X56 by Brett Cat

Perfect boat companion

It's really great. I wanted binoculars for a sailboat. I loved my Razor HD 10x42 which I had for about 6 years but often forgot at home. So I needed a specific pair of binoculars that I could leave on the boat. I compared my Razor 10x42 to a typical Steiner 7x50, which is often considered the ideal marine binocular. My 10x42 had higher magnification (10 vs 7) but had a slightly wider field of view. The wider field of view helped provide better context and allowed you to better stabilize your eyes while the boat was moving. As night fell, however, the Steiners grew a little lighter. Not much, but definitely brighter. I have to say that I compared with the Steiner floor. Trying to find unlit shrimp buoys with the engine running in the middle of the night at new moon near shore, it was a pretty stressful time. My Razor HD 10x42 was my binocular choice because the slightly larger magazine worked quite well, but I often wished for the brightness of 7x50. These Razor UHDs are the perfect match. The improved prism design makes them slightly brighter. The improved lens coating helps make them brighter and the fact that I bought the 8x42 makes them brighter. This makes it much easier to see and I think only the FLIR system can do it better. But that way it's always ready, never needs charging, and costs less for better optics that last longer. Comparing my Razor HD 10x42 to the Razor UHD 8x42 I find they are very similar throughout the day. Both have a small problem with CA: if you're looking at a very dark object against a light background, you'll see some purple/green fringing, but only when the difference in brightness increases dramatically, and you only get annoyed by it when you're looking for it special. .However, as the light dims, the differences become much larger. What I don't know for sure is how big the difference is because I'm comparing UHD to HD, and how big the difference is because I'm comparing 8x42 to 10x42. Despite all of that, I bought the UHD 8x42 for $930, and at that price I feel like I really have a wonderful piece of glass. . You are easier to stabilize while moving when the sea is rocking you. Also, luckily I don't have to lug their heavier weight around on the boat. While I'm very happy with my purchase, I still prefer the Razor HD 10x42 for use on hard surfaces and/or when I need to carry it around a lot. Reducing the weight and size of HD drives is a huge benefit when you need to carry them around. So I FULLY understand why Vortex supports the Razor HD and UHD lines simultaneously. Somehow Vortex sold me the best binoculars I've ever had and I couldn't even imagine having two binoculars. And the most amazing thing is that with the Vortex guarantee, I'll probably own them for the rest of my life.
