Review on 🚘 Enhanced Performance 22737100 GM Genuine Parts Automatic Transmission Control Lever Cable by Adam Ross

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The exact replacement part for my car's needs and cheaper than anywhere else!

I needed a shift cable for a 1995 Cavalier 4 speed automatic. It cost over $60 in some places I could find it online. Bought it here at Revain Prime for $20 less and received it in one day with free shipping. Didn't know Revain has a "workshop" app that lets you enter your vehicle information and find parts. Their system is actually better/faster than the two local dealerships (Autozone/Advance) who didn't even have it. VIN I took a qualifying shot in the dark and that was it for me, for a 4 speed gearbox. Installation was easy and took about 30 minutes: 1. Lift the front of the car, the ramps work great. Be sure to put the parking brake on and put rocks behind the wheels just in case! <-- DO ITNote: Did you put the parking brake on and put rocks under the tires? If not, DO IT2. Disconnect the cable from the shifter on the gearbox. It can be done from the engine bay, or if you're like me it's broken so you're done. Place the shifter in the park position by pushing it "forward" (forward) as far as possible.3. Disconnect the cable from the cable holder just behind the shifter on the gearbox. I did it manually from above.4. We go into the car and remove the center console. There are several screws. You can find instructions online. The front compartment closest to the firewall has a hidden screw under a plastic cover. It took me a minute to find the .5. Once the console is removed, remove the shifter. There is a pin holding it in place and then it slides up and down.6. Disconnect the wire from switch 7. I found it cumbersome to route the wire under the dash bezel and with carpeting it was almost impossible to remove. So I cut the "lip" of the rug in half. You will know when you see it. After that, the cable can be pulled out freely from the dashboard frame.8. Climb under the car, pull out cables from below.9. Installation is the opposite of removal. Connect the cable to the switch first and then park it. The shift lever should be in park from step 2. Check if you can connect the cable. You may need to adjust the "Depth" adjuster (you'll know it when you see it) before the cable connects and also snaps into the cable holder. You may also find it easier to manually shift the transmission from park to another gear to keep the cable in place. I'm an experienced mechanic and it only took me about half an hour but anyone with the skills can do it with most basic screwdriver skills. If not, call one of your friends for help. Save money by paying someone else to do it, they can't guarantee their work in this regard anyway.

Pros
  • Easy setup
Cons
  • Low repairability
