Review on πŸ“· Fujifilm XC 50-230mm F4.5-6.7 Silver Camera Lens: A Versatile Zoom Lens for Exceptional Photography by Michele Rojas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I would have needed a little "more ", but for the price it's 5 stars, no question.

Inexperienced users should consider this a five star rating. This is an excellent lens. Images are clear throughout the zoom range. Even in low light and 400% dynamic range (Fuji users know what that means) I couldn't detect any chromatic aberration. I rarely look at the pixels and didn't take any DP Review style test shots. The scaling is smooth and "sticky". I've used zoom lenses that only shift focal length by gravity, making it difficult to shoot on a tripod. This lens stayed magnified right where I left it. Focusing speed isn't bad, but I don't have anything to compare either. My 18/f2 focuses faster, but I always expected a fast prime to focus faster. The bokeh is very pleasing throughout the zoom range. I've shot a few moving subjects in low light with this lens and OIS seems to do a good job of protecting against motion blur. I found a 1/60 scale shot at maximum magnification (230mm) to keep it sharp. I used a Nikon 70-300 VR lens (not VR-ii) and I would say that this lens is quite comparable in both image quality and stabilization. Note. I did not test this lens in parallel with another lens, just compared photos taken in similar scenes in different locations. I've used this lens on the X-M1 body and got great results. If you've recently bought an X-series body and gotten out of point-and-shoot mode, I can tell you this lens will blow your mind compared to a point-and-shoot telephoto zoom. For the price of this lens, you won't be able to get close to a subject with lots of color and detail. My only downside is that it was a bit more "plastic" than I would have liked. But the build quality doesn't match the price. Also, there's no dedicated aperture ring, so you'll have to use the optional command dial if you're shooting in A or M mode. me. Hobby photographers, holiday photographers or price-conscious photographers should include this lens in their short list. If you're unsure if you really need a 55-200 lens, this is the perfect solution. Brown body X-M1 users should consider the silver version of this lens as it will match your camera's design. The black version (this one) looks great on a black or black/silver X-M1.
