A practical alternative to Fuji's top model.

I use this on the X-E1. Its advantages are price and weight. If it costs less and weighs less than the Fuji XF 55-200mm. However, there is no great benefit in bulk. It's very similar in size to the 55-200mm offerings from Nikon and Canon. I have no way of measuring the image quality, but everything I see in the publications suggests that only the more expensive Fuji XF model beats it. There are two possible downsides depending on your needs and preferences: A- no aperture ring - you have toโ€ฆ

I will not recommend the silver version

I bought the silver version because I have the silver X-E2 that came with it. In all honesty, it looks a little cheap, especially the focus adjustment ring. So if you don't have a silver camera, I don't recommend the silver version. In terms of price, the silver version is $60 cheaper than the black (as of this writing) for a brand new lens... used ones are even cheaper. I don't know if the build quality of the black version is better or not. a plastic lens instead of a metal lens, and no metal

Amazing for the price. Ideal for casual amateur use.

Amazing for the price. I was thinking between this lens and 55-200mm. I've been looking at flickr photos of people who have taken these two lenses and personally I think the 55-200 looks fantastic. I was really dying to get it. But then I accidentally bought the 50-230mm for about $200 less than the 55-200mm. What the hell, I bought it. I didn't think the weight savings were that great. Whenever I use the 50-230 I also use the extra grip with my X-E2. I find that the camera is a bit unbalancedโ€ฆ

This is a great telephoto zoom lens

This is a great telephoto zoom lens. When I bought my X-T1, I realized once again that I have a taste for champagne: I immediately fell in love with all these great prime lenses that are now available for the X-mount: 56mm, this one amazing 23mm. and for the tele I was happy with the idea of using another zoom lens alongside the 18-55 kit lens that came with the camera and I started staring at the expensive 55-200mm. But the truth is I don't have a budget for champignons and I startedโ€ฆ

Cheap but great for camera lenses

This lens looks very attractive, especially when paired with a 16-50mm kit lens and a heavily discounted XA-1 body on sale. This kit is so cheap at the current price level that you could pay the same amount for a comparable item. If you read reviews, the X-A1 case is a lot of fun and logically should be the standout item in the kit. After working with the body and lenses for a while, we can conclude that the protagonist of this kit is the 50-230mm lens. at its price. I am continually amazed byโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Holding my fists
Cons
  • Modern

Inexperienced users should consider this a five star rating. This is an excellent lens. Images are clear throughout the zoom range. Even in low light and 400% dynamic range (Fuji users know what that means) I couldn't detect any chromatic aberration. I rarely look at the pixels and didn't take any DP Review style test shots. The scaling is smooth and "sticky". I've used zoom lenses that only shift focal length by gravity, making it difficult to shoot on a tripod. This lens stayed magnifiedโ€ฆ
