Lots of compromises, but good ones

Let's start with the obvious: This isn't a Really Right Stuff 3-capsule with an Arca Cube on top - and that's a good thing. There are times when light weight and compact dimensions outweigh robust stability. A great choice for the time at an amazing price, made by a quality company. Comes with everything you need for a tripod, including a small ball head with an arca clamp and a hook for hanging weights or accessories. When folded, it fits into a 20 liter Peak Designs Everyday Pack. I'm not a fan of ball heads, so I switched to Arca L60 and it worked. I'm not a fan of center columns either - and there's a two-stage telescopic column here - but the height has to come from somewhere. Again, if you are guided by weight and height, you will need to take medication. On a recent trip to Italy I picked up the PD20L for its compactness and caution. Most days I carried two Hasselblad X1D bodies, XCD 135+1.7TC, Canon TS17 and XCD 30 and 45. And this tripod. Everything is *in* the package. The Hasselblad plus telephoto and TC add to the scope of this tripod, but it was fine in light winds. It's easy to squeeze because it's so light, but using the self-timer and/or the shutter cable gives it a chance to calm down. I would normally carry a much larger, flashier Shimoda photo backpack, but for discretion and maneuverability in large crowds, this was a good choice. Feels thin but well made. It won't take the permanent place of my smallest Novoflex or RRS (I have the strongest tripod I can fit in my bag or backpack) and I look forward to comparing it to Peak Designs' upcoming travel tripod. But it also costs 1/5 to 1/10 the cost of other sticks. Compromises and all that he has 5 stars for.
