Review on πŸ”³ DGK Optek Premium Reference White Balance Card Set- 3 Card Digital Color Correction Tool: Enhance Color Precision and Optimize White Balance by Michael Schafer

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A small set of replacement cards for your kit, but nothing more.

First, these cards are inexpensive, compact, durable, and come with a lanyard for easy portability. I think they're great for close-up portraits if you have a subject or an assistant to hold cards for a few test shots while you white balance and take some measurements. However, I found it difficult to measure my manual white balance on the fly when taking photos in real-world conditions. Bringing a white card very close to the lens (using manual focus) may cause a shadow or finger to appear in the frame, which may result in less accurate readings. A larger card that can be held at arm's length would prevent me from switching between auto and manual focus. I've been looking for a small white card to set my manual white balance with and it does the job perfectly. The white card that came with the kit I bought had a little black fuzz under the laminate - no big deal. A gray card for measuring is good, but I use my palm for measuring (a trick in my film days when I was a photography student and kept losing my gray cards, but it still works great for me to this day). ), so I hardly ever use it. In summary, I think that the biggest advantage of these cards will eventually become their biggest disadvantage as some users may use them less and less. You should get these cards if you ONLY carry your camera or have a small camera bag (body and lens only) as they will do the trick. However, if you have a medium to large sized camera bag that fits more gear, I would recommend spending a few bucks more and buying larger maps since you can still carry them in your bag.
