No excuse for bad color balance: get this

-mm color slide film from the same batch, filmed with approximately 12 color bar frames bracketed and 18% grayscale card under controlled Conditions. The lab removed a strip of film that matched (more or less) the pictures you took from the cassette and sent back the cassette with the unexposed images along with the slides installed. Essential in your pocket

They are about the size of a credit card, strong enough, the tip feels nice too. So far I haven't had any problems using them with the Canon 5D or Nikon D200 which I've been using lately. It's so easy to put them in a quick shot of whatever scene you want to capture. After you've done this once, shoot as normal, unless you switch to different lighting where you need to take another quick shot somewhere in the frame. A small set of replacement cards for your kit, but nothing more.

First, these cards are inexpensive, compact, durable, and come with a lanyard for easy portability. I think they're great for close-up portraits if you have a subject or an assistant to hold cards for a few test shots while you white balance and take some measurements. However, I found it difficult to measure my manual white balance on the fly when taking photos in real-world conditions.
