update 02/05/20: we don't use headphones very often (only a few times a month when one of us wants to stay up to watch a show). They were working but recently stopped working without interrupting the shutdown. We used them for 5 minutes and they made a loud noise and then turned off. When we unplugged the power and "rebooted" they continued to work for 5 minutes and then shut off again. I contacted the supplier/seller and they immediately sent me a new pair - VERY ENJOYED! Unfortunately, these have done the same. Using an additional connection might not be the best option, but it's the only option available to us. So for $65 we got 2 pairs that don't work as we hoped. I'm buying an aux extension cable to plug directly into the TV. They won't be wireless, but they will solve the problem. I'm disappointed but not offended. Put 2 stars instead of 1 b/c, they responded quickly and sent a replacement kit. We have a small apartment and sometimes we don't want to watch the same show or one of us wants to leave without being disturbed by the other who is awake and watching TV. These headphones are the perfect solution for a smart TV that does not have its own Bluetooth emission. We connect ours to the headphone jack on the back of the TV. I've found that plugging the power adapter into a surge protector rather than directly into an outlet helps keep the headphones from spontaneously turning off.
