This set requires a power cord for true stereo. Only one speaker is battery operated. Nevertheless, this speaker has a good sound. Not an outstanding sound, but good sound with lots of volume. I like speakers in wooden cases. It's nice to be able to place a portable speaker anywhere without a cable connection. That's what I love about these bookshelf speakers.
