I needed more outlets and a place to charge my phone. I needed this on a very crowded counter - so I wanted the perfect cord length - I was worried I would have too much, there would be another thing on the way. This cable feeds into the base so it's perfect no matter where I decide to place the tower. I like separate switches for each stage so I can turn off things I don't need. And so far the phone charger has worked well. Allows me to place my phone on top where it's uncluttered and still easily accessible.
