I like hydroxyapatite toothpastes because they're a good alternative for kids who either A) tend to choke on toothpaste or B) need extra oral care. My three year old is in a former camp. This kid intentionally sucks toothpaste out of his toothbrush every time I brush his teeth, and he can't be trusted with gum-flavored fluoride toothpaste. This makes her less inclined to do so. (She tried to tell me it was spicy. It's not, it's very slightly minty and very harmless.) I like these toothpastes for my two older children for the polishing properties they offer; just a little extra to help you remove dirt on your teeth and keep your teeth whiter without using traditional toothpastes/whitening products. I will say that for the health of a child's teeth it is probably wisest to use this in combination with traditionally fluoridated toothpaste (if the age is appropriate). For example: use hydroxyapatite toothpaste in the morning and fluoride toothpaste in the evening. If your child is too young for a fluoride toothpaste or has a medical condition that prevents the use of fluoride, ignore them or fluoride will still be an important part of oral care.
