A healthy aquarium cannot rely on just one thermometer. You never read the same thing. I use four of these for my 40 gallon. Tank. The first (small digital electronics) is down in 10 gallons. The biofilter (where the water heater lives) is second (small digital electronics) from the back left near the bottom. The third is an old analog glass type attached to the top right. Finally this "Capetsma" aquarium thermometer, which I attached to the middle of my aquarium at the back on the right. As said, none of them will read the same way, but they all read within 3 degrees of each other. Most of these variations relate to placement, for example in a biofilter where the heater is located. Of course, the thermometer will read warmer. All tropical fish are sensitive to water temperature, some more than others. Don't rely on just one, two is good and three is better!
