I'm 5.8/5.9 and about 210, muscular and big legs. Need a pair of pants for softball and mountain biking in cold weather. I got the XL because I wanted something a little looser and they are perfect. Perfect length for smaller guys like me. Loose enough in the hips and seat to allow freedom of movement and an extra base layer when needed, but still tight enough so they don't look baggy. Wore them last night to play Tempo softball in mid 30's (no base layer) and they were perfect. Blocked the wind and kept me warm. I also have a pair of these in L, but I don't wear them often because they're a bit smaller than I'd like. They fit well but make you look like a fitness guy trying to show off his quads and glutes. Not my style but if it's yours then go for L.
