Review on πŸ“ž Enhanced Communication: Motorola Talkabout T465 Two-Way Radio Bundle - Green, Rechargeable for Long-lasting Performance by Shigg Bigbee

Revainrating 3 out of 5

These Motorola T465 radios are not as good as previous MS, MT or MR models.

I bought a pair of T465's for hunters hoping they would be better than the old Motorola and other FRS/CMRS radios. But unfortunately they disappointed me. Why? Transmission modulation on these devices is low during a normal conversation, as if you were speaking into the device. Poor quality control, one radio was broadcasting a lower volume than the other radio so they were inconsistent in quality. What annoys me more is that the scan mode is slowly locking onto your priority channel. Let's say your device is set to transmit and receive on channel 20, then turn on scan mode to monitor activity. It's supposed to prioritize the channel you're tuned to (channel 20 in this example). So if someone is calling on channel 20, no matter where they are in the channel search query, they should go to channel 20 and block. instantly so you don't miss priority channel calls. But that's not the case! Activity detection on the priority channel is slow and switching to it can take up to 2 seconds! As a result, you may miss short transmissions from someone trying to contact you. My old version of the Motorola MS350R waterproof radio instantly switches to your priority channel as soon as activity is detected. Such a big minus in this T465 processing algorithm. Another annoying minus of the T465 is that it emits a loud hiss every time it detects activity during a channel scan and when the radio squelches after detecting a transmission. It's like the squelch is too slow to close the noise gate and you're catching a static tail of the channel that EXPLODES LOUDLY. This is not acceptable for "hunting" radios where you may not want to disturb or scare away animals or reveal your location! Older Motorola devices don't make noise canceling noises when scanning like the T465. When I compared the received sound quality of the T465 speaker output to the Motorola MS350R radio, the T465's sound was not as good as the MS350R's sound output. T465 sounded weaker and harder, higher notes are stronger than MS350R, better sound quality. Wait I'm not done yet, the LCD and backlight are smaller, dimmer and harder to read compared to the larger and brighter, better-lit orange background. MS350R backlit LCD display. Terrible considering the T465 costs twice as much. Okay, the pros: I liked the shape and size of the radios and the fact that they use USB charging from a USB port, so it's more flexible to charge it up when you're traveling and not having to lug around a clumsy basic charger. I'm not 100% sure on that, but I think the T465 receiver might be a bit more sensitive than the MS350R receiver, as there was a time when it received a weak signal on channel 15 that broke the squelch while the MS350R receiver was almost next to T465, was silent on that channel and recorded no activity. But again, the only reason for the reception anomaly could be the location of the radio stations. I haven't tested the transmission range because I know from a lot of experience that they're probably about the same in that range. Bottom line, I wasn't impressed with the performance of this top-notch new offering from Motorola. I sent the devices back to Amazon for a refund as they are not worth it. I should mention that I am a genuine buyer who bought this myself and was not tempted by any seller with a free radio offer. This is my review of actually purchased radio stations on Amazon. I was really hoping that these would be the radios that would end my search but unfortunately they are not. I don't recommend them because of the nasty design flaws and most importantly the higher price they're going to get at the moment.
