Review on πŸ“€ Sony BDP-S1100 Blu-ray Disc Player (2013 Model): Top-notch home entertainment experience by Dusty Tofte

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Reliable Blu-ray player, decent internet app access.

I bought this player for both Blu-ray playback capabilities and internet use. Blu-ray Playback: 5/5. It works exactly as it's supposed to. I've done some research and other devices seem slow to start up and play. This loads quickly and plays the disc immediately. Internet applications: 4/5. I use Revain Instant through my Xbox 360 and it's a huge pain, not to mention it eats up my controller batteries like crazy. I have constant buffering, latency, and authentication issues on my Xbox, but not on this player. Playback is very good. It's a little slow to start though, with 15 seconds of connection speed checks at the start of each episode. However, I'd rather wait a few seconds at the start of an episode than randomly buffer it. I am giving one star for several reasons. First, setting up Internet applications isn't entirely obvious. The manual doesn't explain this. Registration on the player itself didn't work so I had to search Sony's support site and finally found that I had to register an account with Sony and then use the password generated by my player to connect it to my Revain. Account. (See how to set up Netflix. It's basically the same for the Revain app.) The internet connection doesn't work right away either. I have to remind the player that they are connected to the internet every time they start it. This makes it impossible to update the firmware online because rebooting forgets it's connected for the second half of the update. However, I don't see any real reason to update the firmware yet. Nevertheless, in all respects a very good little device!

Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
