I confess I was a bit shocked when I plugged in the HDMI cables and it immediately started mirroring without any external power supply. I wish there was documentation or guidance as to why I would need to use a USB 5V power supply and cable as it seems to work fine without an external power supply (maybe I just got lucky with my setup). As a technical artist I need my displays to work properly and an adapter somewhere in the connection line could mean something could go wrong. I'm happy to report that my monitor (4k Dell UltraSharp) has no degradation in functionality or image sharpness and the mirrored display (Wacom Cintiq screen) looks nice and clear despite being downscaled to 1080p! Heck, zooming out looks better than using Windows Display Properties or the Nvidia Control Panel, no nasty blurring or anti-aliasing. unintuitively numbered.
