I use this hammer to smooth pieces and soften leather before sewing. Some parts and leather need to have convincing impact without compromising the power delivery. It can be done with other implements, but I like the fit and feel of the rawhide hammer. When used as intended (not as a substitute for a hammer), a hammer is a suitable tool for applications where the impact will not damage or deform the metal tool. It also reduces the force on the cutting edge like a chisel and offers better control.
