Baby sleep positioners like this one with soft side roll should NEVER be used on newborns or young children due to the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Consumer Reports has conducted reviews of such products as the deaths have been verified. In addition, the FDA website includes the same warning. However, this is a great pet bed. It has shrunk and the parts are expanding as shown in my photos. It actually needs to be assembled, but assembly is easy. I just opened up the bottom center to insert the base, rounded side up. Then I opened up the entire length of the outside of the base and inserted the roller. Once closed there are two clips that transform it into a canoe-like look and allow the pads to sit higher and provide a more comfortable position for the pet (not the child). The base is like a sponge and the pads on the sides are soft and shock-absorbing. Despite the typical appearance of similar devices, this one differs somewhat in design. I've looked at a lot of them and this is the first to have a bumpy bottom due to shipping creases. Those wrinkles don't come out either. In addition, the base is thin and, unlike other similar products on the market, is located under the wheels, which makes the base less comfortable. The washable cover material on this unit is excellent though, as it's more like a durable canvas and has good zips, buckles and plenty of heavy-duty carry handles. The seller took care of the excellent quality of the outer material and wheels. In fact, they're the first to have a protective inlay and safety instructions on the bottom of the base. Unfortunately they have to make the foam core thicker to get out all the creases in the packaging. All in all, my three cats love this bed, but I would never put a baby in it because of the danger of death. Even with the clamps removed I still feel unsafe. Also, the current price of $85.49 ($89.99 minus 5%) is 2-1/2 times higher than most others on the market selling in the $30-$35 range. I see him asking another $20 for the awesome stuff, but that only fetches about $55. In my opinion it's too expensive, especially with such a lumpy and thin base. For my furry little ones, however, this is 5 stars. For human babies it's 1 star - hence the 3 stars because I believe it has a purpose but not for the reason it's being marketed. PS The free price is included in the cost of the pet bed.
