We only used it to rip off the plastic cone after our puppy was neutered. He was able to easily lift the inflatable collar over his head (his neck was about 13 inches long, we used a large one). If his collar is slipped through the loops, his foot will get caught trying to get out. Licking his wound became less oppressive after about 3 days, he was more apt to leave the collar on and started sleeping with it on. This helped him get rid of the constant wearing of a hard cone and made eating/drinking/potty training much easier . I still used the plastic cone unless watched closely, when inflated the collar was quite wide, couldn't reach the wound at all.
