Review on Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm 📷 f/1.8G Lens: Exceptional Image Quality and Versatility by Doyun Siu ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The right product for me, the price suited me.

This lens itself is very good, for the price! I use Nikon D200 on the crop, an excellent portrait lens, I even shoot weddings on this without any problems! Color reproduction is good, detail is also good (if the camera doesn't miss the autofocus), autofocus is quiet and the speed is average. The disadvantage of autofocus is that in low light (and even sometimes with more than enough) it fidgets back and forth, then stops (1/5 of a second) to double-check, the rosary pulls there (or here :)) and the camera beeps that everything is in focus. It doesn’t cause any special problems now, I’m already with him :) I wanted to change to Nikon 50mm f / 1.4G, but I read that autofocus is even slower there and I realized that this is not for me. The biggest trouble with this lens is that in backlight it dramatically loses the colors (and even contrast) of the picture, it’s the Achilles’ heel, so to speak (it really annoyed me, I didn’t pay much attention from the beginning, but then I felt that the colors degrade so much that even an increase saturation does not help to get a high-quality, pure color). It shows itself perfectly in all respects at apertures 4 and 5.6. With good natural illumination, I get very sharp shots even at 1.8 (I repeat if the camera does not let you down with autofocus). There are minor chrome. aberrations, but do not catch the eye at all. And I am silent about the distortion . Everything in the editor is treated without problems. I definitely recommend buying it for crop as an excellent portrait lens, I haven’t tried it in full frame.

Pros
  • Color reproduction, price
Cons
  • Autofocus, backlight
