After being a loyal Asus router customer for years, I thought I should try other brands to see if the grass is greener on the other side. So I got this D-Link DIR-3040 plus two of their Wi-Fi extension mesh boxes. Boy BIG MISTAKE, where do I start? I've only had this D-Link setup for 6 months and have encountered the following issues: 1. in the router's admin panel, the connected devices page is completely inaccurate, half of my devices don't even show up.2. I use two "mesh" D-Link blocks with this router, after rebooting the router you often have to reload each of the mesh blocks, which is PITA3. After a reboot on most of my devices WiFi stops working until you do a "forget" and reconnect cycle 4. WiFi is unstable, keeps dropping connection and just randomly stops working For some reason network resources randomly stop working to work, can not even see the share on the same network. Didn't have this problem with my old Asus.6 router. no firmware support Dude I didn't know how good the Asus firmware support was until I started using this D-Link, there is no firmware support, D-Link just doesn't fix problems, even with this one relatively new product. Asus updated my FIVE YEAR OLD Asus router. To D-Link's credit, at least they didn't mess up the wired connection, the wired ethernet connection is stable and fast. But almost all WIFI related functions are messy, almost unusable.
