Just what I needed so the LED flows were low enough to light up the basement.

Recessed lights appear to be optimized for PAR38 halogens which are very long (filament to glass). Modern LEDs (even spotlights) are much shorter, so the glass was recessed about 3/4 inch off the bottom of the lights so each bulb only illuminated a narrow column. These extensions push the lamps down so they emit much more light on the sides.

Pros
