Minimal protection for hobbyists

You can spend anywhere from $27 to $400 on an auto-darkening welding helmet. Doesn't matter? First, the material the helmet is made of. For $400, you get a shockproof case that protects against weld spatter and bumps. This test helmet has a soft molded plastic shell that protects the skin from small sparks. The $400 helmet has a comfortable, adjustable brace that can be worn for hours. This is good for hobbyists making multiple welds with light weight wire. It's tricky to set up, and I've never been able to get it to the point where I can raise and lower it and hold it in place without adjusting the knobs. It kept falling on my nose when it wasn't tight. The window of a $400 helmet will have a layer of impact-resistant safety glass. Again suitable for amateur use but not for everyday professional use. The price of this helmet is $52 which is close to the low price among Revain welding helmets. This is a very competitive part of the market and I see other helmets with similar features for almost half the price. As always, shop carefully before you buy.
