Review on Spectra Premium DG29 Distributor by Andrew Mack

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Working but has wrong wheel Reluctor for 2001 Mitsubishi Galant 3.0L V6

Bought this distributor for a 2001 Galant GTZ and the manual confirms its suitability along with the Spectra Premiums website. After installing this DG29 distributor, the car started issuing P0335 (crankshaft position sensor) and P0340 (camshaft position sensor). The engine ran rough and you could hear something was wrong with the car and quickly shut it down. After a bit of research I tore the manifolds apart as there were comments about this DG29 manifold having the wrong Reluctor wheel installed. After checking, it turned out that my 2001 Galant's DG29 had the wrong reluctor wheel. The installed wheel told the ECU that the CAM was spinning 3x faster than the crank and why the above codes were set. The injectors worked like crazy and the spark plugs fired three times faster. I took the Reluctor Wheel out of the old distributor, installed it in the new one and reinstalled it in the car. Works great and solved my misfire problems. If you're having trouble with this device, check your Reluctor wheel and good luck!
