I have a 2004 Ford F150 FX4 5.4L Triton that has always had intermittent slight hesitations when accelerating since I bought it used. Based on my decades of mechanical knowledge, I thought it was fuel related but was never able to determine. The engine is dusty from the timing chain and I changed almost everything when replacing the engine. Filters, candles, coils and washed nozzles. The engine ran well, but it still had that hesitation. Fuel pressure regulator changed, no change. I looked on YouTube and found a person talking about this fuel pump control module. The spare wheel in the area of the rear axle is correct. I have found what others have found that due to exposure to road elements the module's molded case will corrode and affect the computer circuit board inside. For $21 it fixed all the acceleration issues I had, now my F150 runs like a healthy 8 cylinder with plenty of acceleration! So if you're having trouble starting, hesitation to accelerate, or startup issues, consider purchasing this very affordable module to see if that's your problem. Easy to replace, drop the spare tire, push and pull out the electrical connector. Then use the 8mm socket on the 1/4 ratchet to remove the two screws. If they are difficult to turn, do it slowly. Turn until tight, spray something like PB Blaster around the screws, retighten to lube the threads, then start loosening again. Take your time, you don't want to tear them up in the frame. You will come out if you take your time. I wouldn't use the new screws that come with the new one. Just clean and lubricate the old ones.
