I chose this inexpensive tubular micrometer model because I rarely need this tool. I think it's a great tool for the price, and to the best of my knowledge it's accurate for testing. I believe this is an instrument that will last and remain accurate if properly cared for and lined like any instrument in a good shop. Well, now that I have it, I've found a use for it that I didn't even know existed. When it's convenient to measure an unusual shape like a pipe or other irregular, non-planar part, you're only measuring things because you can, and there's not that much knowledge of the dimensions of the parts you're working with. It's better to know the size and not need any information than not knowing any at all. You come across pipe material that the hole is not exactly centered and this is a great tool to determine the consistency of the wall thickness and so know the egocentricity of the hole in relation to the outside. I would highly recommend this mic for its intended use and for others you can think of. If, like me, you have a hobby shop at home and don't do rocket ops or anything like that and just need to find the size of a random item and don't want to spend a fortune on gauges, this should help you. he does it for me.
