I bought the D8 a little over a month ago and decided to try the D9. My simple test was to put a D8 in front of me and play a song and then swap out the D9s. I was surprised because the difference was immediately noticeable. D9 is definitely more powerful. The D9's bass is noticeably less heavy than the D8's, but the rest of the range sounds clearer and more accurate. The sound engineer could have described it better. My primary use case is an outdoor tennis court. I've had D8 for a couple of weeks now and it also covers all places and 2nd place. I would say the difference is in the effort. You don't have to turn on D9 that often. I would 100% prefer the grip to be detachable or like the D8 and dangle free as I carry it in my backpack with my tennis racquets. The body is slightly larger. I prefer these D8 buttons as they are color coded making them easier to tell apart at a glance. Update: A firmware update has been installed and the bass is much better. The firmware improvement was enough to return D8 and stop at D9
