Review on Sony ICF C263 Digital Discontinued Manufacturer by Rachel Brown

Form follows function, NOT!

In my opinion, a clock radio should be in the following order: 1) have an easy-to-use, reliable alarm clock, 2) show the time clearly, and 3) use an easy-to-use radio function. Point 3. The digital tuner was nifty and accurate, making it easy to tune in to my favorite station in my landscape. However, the clock next to my side of the bed was almost impossible to see at night - my husband had no hope. See time (function 2). The watch has NO BACKUP BATTERY. Wait, isn't that the primary function of most clock radios? Isn't the main function of a clock radio to wake the user up by turning on the alarm (or radio) at a specific time? Without a backup battery (which my $8 Wal-Mart clock radio has), it fails to perform its primary function (Function 1). And did I mention that I can easily check the time on my cheap Wal-Mart clock radio? I ignored the reviews because I REALLY wanted a clock radio with a digital tuner, but this unit (I'm hesitant to call it a clock radio) is so dysfunctional that I immediately returned it. My advice is to skip this and remember the basic design rule - form follows function. And if you know Sony designers, remind them of this rule.
