The fabric is the same stuff as on my railings, so I know that it keeps out most of the wind and sun. It also adds privacy. Because it is breathable it does not keep out the rain nor a lot of the sunlight as you can see in the photos. My two regrets of the product is that I wish it was longer. My pergola is 14', 10" x 8' and this shade cloth is only 10'x20' which means once it is pulled across the pergola there isn't much room to shade the sides. I was hopping to pull it to the left in the morning and to the right in the afternoon. That brings me to the bungee balls.they are not very long, so I am not able to wrap them around my 6"x6" legs and actually had to pound in nails to hold the cords in place to keep the cloth on.With that said, it's a nice product and is cheaper priced than most!
