The cylindrical shape of the enlarger prevented the base from fitting fully into my ceiling fan's chandelier base. A more tapered design would have allowed the bell to fit completely within the socket. I also tried the socket in the ceiling light. Even though the magnifying glass went all the way in, it lengthened the lightbulb to the point where the glass ball didn't fit. Bottom line: if you have a lot of space, a magnifying glass and a standard LED or CFL light might work for you, but not for me.
