This is a very good and functional item. I bought this to replace similar catches that were physically falling apart. As a replacement part, this product overlooks one aspect - the need to use shims to keep it at the perfect height. In my case, the installation of ball cages at the level of the door frame was too deep due to the previous installation of the door. I was able to manually raise the ball detent assemblies from 1/8" to 3/16" which helps a lot, but I'm afraid they will sink deeper in previously drilled holes as they wear out. For this reason I would recommend using a set of 1" round shims to securely set the striker assemblies to the optimum depth/height for a particular door and doorway installation. Yes, they're great for tight-fitting doorways, but in older homes where the finish isn't optimal, tolerances and workarounds need to be considered.
