I have high windows in the living room and the backyard opens directly from the windows so they are difficult to clean. I had high hopes for this item, but unfortunately I had two major problems with it. First, even though the rod was extended, I couldn't keep it locked. There is a piece in the middle that you twist to fix it. It just doesn't close properly. When I used the spongy part of the washer, the rod kept sliding down. I couldn't hold it in the extended position. However, it could be used. My second issue, which I found to be a bigger problem, is that the mop head isn't at the right angle. If you hold the wand over your head, the mop will point up instead of down, preventing you from pulling the mop down towards you. This is a particularly serious design problem. If I wanted to find a ladder to climb (and hope it didn't tip over in my sloping yard), I could shorten the pole and still use the mop. But then when I wanted to climb the stairs, I would just use Windex and clean the windows that way. Unless you have high windows to reach, you'll probably find this more useful than I did. I'll probably use this for my car in the future or something but can't use it because I bought it from the start.
