Very dissatisfied with this toaster. It's clearly solidly built and really pretty to the eye. But it's not a museum piece, it's a toaster, so its main function must be performed sensibly. Bottom line, it roasts more unevenly than cheap Asian ones, which cost 10x less. I was more than willing to invest in such a beautiful car; still assembled by hand in the UK. But even though I've tried every iteration of the toast configuration, I just can't get an acceptable result. I spoke to Dualit's US customer service representative and he was not helpful at all. "Preheat the toaster before you use it," one man who appeared to be just a third-party representative reading a scripted speech told me. It's a ridiculous waste of energy and doesn't work anyway. Half of each slice of toast will be crispy and the other half will be barely toasted. Sometimes this is an issue of the bottom and top halves, and sometimes the diagonal (see attached photos). If I need to turn my toast a few times to get a decent end product, I can do that with a toaster that costs a lot less than $340. So, after trying to get decent toast for almost three months, I'm fed up. Obviously it's too late to return it so I'll be replacing it with a less expensive and probably more effective product. I hate being so critical of what an amazing product should be, but my experience leaves me with no alternative.
