Review on πŸ”Œ Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness for Toyota Avalon & RAV4 - CURT 56350 (Black) by Jay Williamson

There aren't enough cables, look for another brand, update: died a year later.

I bought this to use in my 2018 RAV4 Hybrid. I followed the video from etrailer.com. I would say most of the instructions there were pretty good. In general, you should just take your time and not force anything. I bought several plastic removal tools and it helped avoid scratches or damage. The biggest problem was that the wires from the driver's side wiring harness weren't long enough. I even called my local store to get a part number and they sell an identical kit. The cables leading to the driver's side black box are simply not long enough to place them in the location shown in the video. I had to lengthen the grounding cable and lengthen the power cable. The latter definitely had to be extended. The biggest problem was that the box was behind the side panel, it was extremely inconvenient to work with. I ended up having to glue it to the side of the car on the fender. I'm pretty sure it won't last too long there, especially if the temperature changes. There was no way to insert a screw without going through the side of the car. The bottom line is that THE WIRES ARE NOT ENOUGH FOR A CORRECT INSTALLATION. I'll text Kurt about it to see the answer. The kit actually worked and I have power for my trailer lights, no problem. I'm just not thrilled that this black box is hanging from a wire connector that's pulling on those wires. Maybe a heavier double-sided tape or maybe epoxy or something could stick to the side of the car more firmly, but when I installed it the angle was about 45Β° so it was impossible. The bottom line is that if the wires were longer, they could be mounted on a horizontal surface instead of being snagged. I am very disappointed with this kit. The total time I spent on the installation was about three hours, including a lot of extra time splicing the ground and power wires. If you could run the cable all the way to the front of the car I would professionally install it. It would be a royal PITA, otherwise crawl under the car and lay the cables. Most modern cars have skid plates and the like that would need to be removed. The hybrid had the battery in the back, which made that part easier. I do not recommend this product. I would go to a retailer and look for another brand with longer cables. Update: died within a year. The converter box is dead. Cannot repair. Absolute waste of time and money. Terrible product.
