Review on DEWALT D55001 Synthetic Compressor Quart by Andrew Spainhour

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best synthetic compressor oil on the market!

I purchased a Craftsman Professional 27 gallon vertical compressor with a US made Devilbiss tank and it has worked great for my needs. Sure, the manual says you should change your compressor oil every 6 months or so, and the fine print on another page says you MUST use synthetic compressor oil. Damn. All Sears sells is dinosaur oil, and I bought four bottles of it on sale because the showroom rep told me I needed it. When I realized he'd sold me something that was literally the equivalent of snake oil, I took the bottles back to Sears and got a store loan after a bet with the manager. OK, whatever. Went online and of course Revane didn't let me down. I found DeWalt Synthetics, changed the oil (and changed the air tank valve at the same time). The old oil was original and contained tiny metal flakes (probably because I had to add up to 4 ounces of dyno during break-in). With a full tank of new DeWalt synthetic oil, the compressor runs like a stick! I thought it was quiet beforehand but WOW! It's just a beautiful putt-putt-putt-putt when he's working now. I couldn't be happier. Expensive? Yes. Its worth it? Absolutely. :-) CONTINUED - 8 months later: I recently used my Aircat angle grinder to powder coat a 10 square meter piece of metal (the bottom plate of a synth I'm restoring). It took about 3 hours and 5 Roloc discs to make and the end result was excellent. At one point, the compressor ran non-stop for almost 2.5 hours just to keep up. I checked the oil the next day and it still looks new. I love DeWalt Synthetics.
