The handle is what I got as I had other (metal) drain cleaners and the handle is needed. I needed the extra length these gave. The problem is that the wand is *too* flexible. Once it hits an obstacle or too sharp a bend in the pipe, it just spins around as you twist and try to get it in. It should be a lot tougher. I have a shorter crankless one but a lot stiffer and it works great. I can only see that it *probably* works if the blockage is at a distance where almost the entire length of the rod is in the tube - then the tube can provide enough constriction to minimize corkscrew twisting and hence possibly to function. That is the reason for the two stars. Most of the time I guess it's useless. Good idea, bad execution. Stick to a solid metal snake or something stiffer if it's plastic.
