Review on πŸ”Š Sceptre C305W-2560UN: 30" Ultrawide Curved Monitor with DisplayPort, Build-In Speakers, and HD Quality by Thach Leighton

Revainrating 3 out of 5

A good "curved " ultrawide monitor for the price, not a high performance monitor.

A 21:9 curved monitor is virtually unheard of at this price point, so it's a plus for those features if that's all you need, although the curved feature is a bit deceiving. However, the 30-inch 21:9 monitor is a lot smaller than it looks. Can be for or against depending on what you are looking for. Because it's ultra-wide, the bezel height is roughly equivalent to a 27-inch monitor, which can make a difference if you plan to use two monitors from different brands. I'm not sure what "super curved" means. The degree of curvature is rather flat, barely perceptible from many positions. You could probably get the 21:9 for the same price, which is slightly larger without the curve, for the same price as this and have the same or better experience. I wouldn't advise buying this just for the curved label if that's what you're after. For some reason the display seems a bit dim. Brightness at 100 and it's still dimmer than the monitor I connected it to. I doubt it would be as noticeable without a second monitor. However, glare can be an issue if you plan to use this in a room with the lights on and from a distance. The screen definitely gets glare from other light sources, even the power indicator on my Dualshock 4 controller creates a lot of glare. There is definitely ghosting in the range above 70 fps, even at the maximum refresh rate of 85 Hz. This is particularly noticeable in games that have scrolling images in their menus in the user interface. It's not particularly noticeable during normal gameplay, but there are moments when the halos can be very obvious. I wouldn't say it's bad enough to be a deal breaker, it just exists and will eventually show up from time to time. Colors look a little washed out regardless of the settings made, but it can also be a sign that it's a bit dull. I haven't actually done any testing on this aspect other than just comparing it to other monitors I own that are around the same price. Black screens have a lot of backlight. I haven't played any particularly dark games on it other than Shadow of the Tomb Raider, so I personally haven't seen the impact it could have on games across genres. If you use a computer in a room with the lights off, you will definitely notice a backlight. The stand is made entirely of aluminum and has a fairly large footprint. It looks very cheap but should at least hold the monitor well as you have to screw it directly to the stand. The monitor also comes with a VESA mounting bracket. Overall I don't think this is necessarily a bad monitor for the price, but you could certainly do better with a non-curved 21:9 screen at this price point. Having sent this monitor back I can't comment on its durability either so it might be a gamble in the long run. However, there is a small power indicator that will glow somewhere behind the screen no matter how much it's plugged in. I haven't tried any speakers, but I don't think people actually buy monitors for their speakers, and I suspect they're probably underwhelming at this price point. It's small enough that it's probably great in a dorm or bedroom with limited headroom for a larger display.
